Folklore from a historical point of view is very difficult to define. Ethnographers have been recording Slovak folklore for the last 100 years and some of the most famous originally were not even Slovak. One such name that comes to mind that has done enormous amount of work in preserving Slovak heritage is Bela Bartok, a famous Hungarian composer who not only written numerous books, but also recorded in the 1910s over 220 wax cylinders of Slovak folklore. The other name that comes to mind is Czech Karol Plicka who not only recorded, filmed, documented but played an important part in preserving and organizing dance troupes who still exist to this day.

This section will try to give you in debt information so that you too can better appreciate Slovak folklore.
