Slovak Cultural and Information Centre will present the first Slovak feature-length film "Janosik", which is considred today as the founding pillar of Slovak national film industry at its premises at 12 Birch Avenue, February 28, 1996 at 7:00 p.m.

The firm was directed in 1921 by Jaroslav Siakel for Tatra Film Corporation of Chicago, Ill. USA.. Jaroslav Siakel as forn in Blatnice, Slovakia and this past January 4, 1996 celebrated his 100 birthday in Western Spring (near Chicago), Ill. U.S.A. He is the oldest living director in the world.

The whole film is based on the humorous retrospective storytelling by an old sheppard and filmed in the style of a classic American western film. Slovak premiere of the film was held on November 21, 1921 at the Grand Bio Universum theatre in Zilina and the U.S. premiere was held on December 1, 1921 in Atlantic Theatre in Chicago. On the occasoin of 100 years of world cinematography, a restored version of this film was premiered in January 1996 in Paris.
